I have some exciting news!  Equinox recently announced that starting this Fall, they will launch a digital fitness platform. This digital fitness platform will include classes and content from its family of brands, including SoulCycle and Precision Run!  The new platform will integrate live and on-demand content (pre-pandemic, the content was going to be from over 300 locations but I imagine that they have streamlined that a bit).

[Big update below]

The SoulCycle App

It’s clear that the SoulCycle experience will include (expensive) bikes and treadmills with built-in screens like Peloton. However, it is unclear at the moment if the SoulCycle App will let you take the SoulCycle classes with your own spin bike. (Like Peloton does with the Peloton App). It seems only natural that they would.

UPDATE (Oct 2020): The SoulCycle App is now live in the Apple Store (search Variis EQX).  There is a 7 day free trial and then it is $39.99/month thereafter. That is quite a bit more than the $12.99 that I am paying for the Peloton App.  I’ll update once I give the free trial a spin (pun intended).  Per the app description, you can stream video and audio classes from Equinox, SoulCycle, PURE Yoga, Precision Run, Myodetex, and HeadStrong. Every class has concert grade lighting that closes mirrors the in-studio experience.  Time to get your disco ball out!

Fingers crossed. I really hope that it does as it will allow me to use my fabulous Sunny bike with my trusty Wahoo speed and cadence sensors to take the SoulCycle spin classes (full disclosure, after writing this original post and taking 500 rides on my Sunny I upgraded to a Keiser M3i).  In fact, the idea that there would be Peloton competitors and more on-demand options in the future is one of the main reasons I chose to use the Peloton App with my Sunny bike instead of buying the Peloton Bike. I love the Peloton app classes but I equally love the SoulCycle “nightclub experience.” If they can come close to replicating that feeling at home, it will be a huge hit.

As they say, competition is good and variety is the spice of life.  🙂

Watch this space….

Happy Spinning!
